Monday MD - Gunstar Heroes

Run and gun wasn't created with Gunstar Heroes, however this game defines the very genre itself offering a good gameplay, a solid replayability and a challenging yet rewarding experience. I often use the expression retro days Dark Souls, and I think this is as close as you can get from that.

All in with the graphic signature from Treasure, one of these game developers that has a track record of making incredible games during the 90's and early 2000's.
They're still active today yet their star seem to be dimly shine nowadays compared to what it was and the best experience from them comes from their 2D productions, which is not surprisingly part of most of their releases.

Gunstar Heroes was released in 1993 to wide public acclaim and the critics made on the game accounts in the magazine then were all giving praise to the game.

ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY #52
9 out of 10

"This cart represents the fact that the Genesis can still beat out the competition! This has got to be one of the best intense carts to date, providing non-stop blasting and hand-to-hand combat thrills that will strain your abilities to the max! There are plenty of levels, all of which are truly original and are an absolute riot to play through! Add the fact that it is two-players and you have a fantastic winner!!" -Ed Semrad

SEGA FORCE MEGA #5 94% out of 100%

"Yes you have read that right. It's definitely 94% for this outstanding game. If you thought the platform arena had become a little jaded and repetitive of late, this is the game that is going to give the genre a much needed kick in the backside. If you only get one game this year, then Gunstar Heroes should be top of your list, even if it means sucking up to Great Aunt Nelly to get your hand on it." -Marc

Is the praised received worth it more than 25 years after ? Well yeah still does - but why  ?

You've got to come back to a context in the genre of run and gun games during the same year to understand we haven't had much ground breaking in the genre and the only game coming close to it was Zombies ate my neighbors ( a good game that will be covered soon)

It's quite difficult to get this game justice by depicting its action and give a review proper of its name and I do recommend that you get it. It is available on Sega Genesis, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, iOS and various Sega MegaDrive classic collections and consoles.
